Elder Singer standing next to the cities' only stop sign

Elder Singer standing next to the cities' only stop sign

Dear Family,

Wow im so glad that yall finally got some pics and good news i have more! They´re pretty good, the one with the stop sign I had to take, it might not seem so exciting but in Argentina it’s the first one ive seen… that might explain why there´s so many wrecks here… but hey who knows right? Anyways this week was pretty good, we found a whole bunch of really good new investigators that seemed really receptive the problem is just getting them to church. We´re teaching this lady named Betty and she´s really good she just needs an answer and so does this ex Jehovah´s witness named Fabian. He has a ton of questions and he´s in the same situation as Betty. We didn’t have any investigators come to church this week but there´s always next week. I found out what is gonna happen for next transfer this Friday and I feel like im gonna stay but we´ll see. Also we aren’t going to have zone conference cuz Hermana Northcutt is super sick so we´re prayin for her. This week ive been pretty sick and all the members know and they all get on me when I take off my jacket its really funny cuz they pull out their parkas when its less than 80 degrees outside. Today I feel ive gotten a lot better though. This week is gonna be super crazy and the last weeks have been too because tomorrow is 25 de Mayo and its their 4th of July but they go all out its insane and everyone is drunk. The other day these drunk dudes jumped up as if to rob me but luckily I didn’t understand what they said to me so I just kept casually walking and they stopped. It was kinda funny to be honest. Also everyone´s getting ready for the World Cup and its pretty nuts and some people will be like Vamos Argentina!! In my face cuz they know im from the states but ill just cheer along with em. Today was pretty sweet cuz we actually did something and we played soccer and im not gonna lie I think it was one of the first times ive been picked last to play. We played with some members and they can just tell before we play but I scored like 2 goals later on. Yesterday at church there was this visitor guy who was the driver for our district president and in the middle of priesthood (all of 4 people) he was  “why are yall so different? Why do I feel so good when im here?” and other questions like that it was fun to answer them and tell him why. Did yall know I can send mail to any missionary in Argentina through the Bolsa so I could write Elder Robinson for free, that’s pretty cool and I knew a teacher in the MTC that served in Mendoza. Sorry to hear about Josh´s injury I hope he´s doin all right and I really liked the pictures that dad sent me and it seems like all is well. Mom I really like the idea to write the missionaries in the Houston mission. I feel really bad for some of the missionaries who don’t receive any mail, it is especially like this for the Latinos, some of them I have talked to are the only converts in their families and their family doesn´t really support the idea of serving a mission. Its really sad and I feel really bad for em. My comp for example he receives written mail every once in a while but neither of his parents know how to type.  Well that’s about all I hope all is well and ill be praying for yall. Thank you so much for your support, love, and prayers and don’t forget to read the BoM every day as a family and personally.

Love,

Elder Singer

[admin has been out of the country for two weeks]

Dear Family,

So last week i sent yall some pretty sweet pictures but it seems like every email i try rejects them im not sure why but im gonna try and make it so ill send an individual email for every photo and hopefully that´ll work. Just wanted to tell Anna Happy Birthday and hope it went well, Ill buy you something and give it to you in 2 ish years alright? Just a lil reminder, yall can send mail through the bolsa and it can only be 1 page folded and stamped with an American stamp and taped and the address is Elder Singer, Argentina Salta Mission, PO Box 301500, SLC UT, 84130-0150. Thanks for all of your letters btw everyone I really enjoyed all of them and mom im really sorry about your wallet getting stolen that’s gotta be frustrating but yeah ive been tryin to be pretty conscious about where my stuff is, I am in Argentina, where the police don’t do anything. I cant believe you have an iphone now either, have you figured it out yet? Btw I got a dear Elder from Grandma Singer and my friend Michael Slawson from the Y and he told me where a lot of the guys on my floor are goin on their missions and its crazy 2 of them that are roommates are goin to the same mission. I cant believe Winsdor is goin to Spain they talk way weird Spanish with a lisp. I made a friend in the MTC that is in Spain right now I cant remember where he went exactly but he left early for the Spain MTC. Well anyways, this week was pretty fun. We worked a whole lot and its actually pretty cold to answer Grandma Richardsons question and im pretty sick. Im so grateful for the members we have though Jorgelina from the Flores fam called us last night to see how I was doin and gave me some advice. Kinda crazy too, we had to go on exchanges for a bit cuz we had a baptisimal interview and she left her house so yeah still no baptism. I went on an exchange with Elder Brisolara and it was really fun cuz he was in my MTC group and we taught a lesson and it was an adventure cuz both of us don’t have a whole lot of time. Speaking of no baptism, we went by later to our investigators house , Azuzena and she told us that she isn’t sure about being baptized any more and it was a kinda heartbreaking but we taught her a lesson about baptism and bore testimony of this special opportunity with her and we are having her pray about her doubts but we will see. I told her about how this is the food that we need to feed our spirits with and if you don’t eat, your spirit starves. Yesterday it was raining a whole lot and when we got to church we had all of 4 people, me and my comp, Pres of the Branch, and one sister in the branch. Later a couple more people showed up and I gave a talk about prayer and I felt pretty good about it, especially cuz I made it up on the spot and a couple of the members gave me some compliments that my Spanish is improving a lot. This is kinda funny, I told my comp the other day that the US is the land of promise, yeah that was a bad idea, im not sure though is all of the Americas the land of promise or just the US? Cuz venezula and cuba I wouldn’t go so far to say that they are the land of promise. If my pics go through, there is one of me in front of our pension door and of a dog. It’s a really fat dog and if you get her to roll over and you just put a teeny bit of force she cant roll over cuz she´s so fat its really funny. Last night we had a way awesome lesson, she seemed super Catholic and not too receptive at first but later she was like yeah, my dad wasn’t a member but some muchachos like yall gave him a BOM and he always read it and said that it made him feel really good, more than the bible. It was really exciting to teach her and she accepted the invitation to be baptized if she receives an answer and we felt real good about her. I just got dad´s lil email im not sure what photos he´s talkin bout but yeah dad does look pretty swoll not gonna lie im impressed. Btw, the street sign one is in tucuman and EEUU means USA. My comp isn’t in the one you just asked me about. The one in the truck with Hermano Mansilla is with my comp just so you know. Im glad that your actually receiving my pics! Those Elders are in my District, the one inside the chapel. The cup picture is of mate made from bull hide… ill let you figure out what part from the picture, I thought it was so funny. Well im outta time but I love you guys so much and I really appreciate all of your prayers. Btw could yall tell me which mission Logan Robinson is in? thanks!

Love,

Elder Singer

Dear Family,

Ok so apparently dad´s email doesn’t like mine so I forwarded last weeks to you, this email is doing lots of annoying things but hopefully ill be able to get through to yall, hopefully I don’t lose viewers. It was sweet too, pics and everything but idk if its even gonna let me forward this time either you´ll be able to get pics sooner or later…. But yeah this week was pretty cool i guess. Ive started to read the BoM in Spanish and that’s goin pretty well it helps a lot to and I can almost understand everything but I do the john groberg thing with it side by side. Also ive been reading outloud with a pen in my mouth because you cant get away with mumbling in Spanish as easily as you can in English so it helps me open up my mouth and it actually works. Earlier this week we did what is called a white wash where all the missionaries in the district go to one area to find new investigators if they´re having a difficult time finding people but I kinda feel like they need to do that to my area. I really like my district they´re a really cool bunch of guys. We played soccer today and its def not my game but maybe one day it will be…. Im probably gonna be sore for a couple of days cuz I cant run cuz my comp and his messed up ear. Not a whole lot of super funny stuff happened though, except we had ward council once and the femine guy asked me a couple of days later if I <snip> at the end of it and when it happened I thought nobody heard cuz they were all talking and I just started cracking up and I couldn’t lie it was really funny. It was nice to talk to yall btw for all of 30 seconds yesterday but ill probably call around 4 to 5 ish your time probably 5ish. One day was really cool, usually my comp usually never asked me where we should go but he did this time and I prayed and I just felt like we should go to this house in particular and there was a lady there and we were able to set a baptisimal date if she received an answer. I don’t really know whats gonna happen from there but it seemed pretty cool to me. Also we found this guy named Fabian and he is way awesome, he understands everything really well and he knows his the bible really well. For example he recognized the 3 kingdoms of Heaven and that kinda caught me off guard and he said he prayed but didn’t receive an answer but we´ll work with him. This week also we spent a whole lot of time with less actives and visiting them with active members and lots of them are starting to realize they´re lives aren’t going in the direction they necessarily would like them to and some of them are starting to come back to church. I feel like my Spanish is getting a lot better too. Today I found out that in the world of Spanish, northern Argentina is infamously known for having some of the worst sounding Spanish of anyone and I don’t doubt it for a second ill give my best imitation of what they talk like when I call you guys. It sounds like you guys are doing really well and mom I really liked your story about sister dibbs and sounds like your birthday went real great too. Tell Myke Argyle hi for me. Congrats to dad on his triathalon btw! Sorry this email isn’t that exciting I spent a lot of time fiddling with this stupid thing and theres a bunch of kids on the same soccer team running around me… but thanks so much for your emails I love you guys so much and thanks for the prayers too.

Elder Singer

Hey family,

How is everyone doing? im still alive just in case you were wondering but yeah this week was good. Happy Birthday Mom :) sounds like your doing good too. and if you wanna send me a package too with whatever thats cool. and if you dont know what to send, send lots of reeses. lots. just to answer your question we walk. a lot, this area is one of the biggest in the mission. btw i forgot to let yall know but ill be in Concepcion for the next transfer with Elder Perez. Random question what mission is Logan Robinson in? Dad, mom tells me your pretty buff. Apparently she forgot what buff was but i have been gone for quite a while now haha. Sounds like dad´s talk went really well and i liked your opening joke, unfortunately the comp place we´re in today doesnt allow me to print so ill have to read your talk another week. Its funny cuz i spoke too and they let me know 15 min before the meeting! i felt like it actually went well and made sense and i basically just talked about the joy we can find through Jesus Christ. I´ll talk a lil more on that later. I think you should go ahead and do the half ironman but it sounds like you´d have to train a ton, i heard for an ironman you have to train for like 3 hours a day. but maybe only 1.5 hours a day, it is a half iron man. Megan sounds like the band trip was fun and tell josh to write me too. i cant believe you actually admitted to Josh being a good driver. On my contacts, it doesnt say a lil number thing like you told me over the phone that one time, just the numbers, can you tell me which one is which again?

Anyways, so this week i went on an exchange with Elder Cottle and he is in this city called Alberdi. It was cool but my stomach later found out that the water is not too drinkable. We taught this guy who has been investigating the church for a long time but is trying to find anything he can wrong with the Book of Mormon. You really cant and i remembered Tasha´s letter from last week and we basically told him he needed to humble himself and find out if its true if he really wants too. The next morning we had to go to Tucuman and i didnt think id be able to go i was feeling pretty terrible (and dad to answer your question this was the worst..<snip> ive had so far.) and i stared straight out the window the whole 2.5 hours to tucuman holding it. We got there and i was still feeling bad and i started praying and i remembered this scripture, Alma 31:38, and it says despite our afflictions, we can always find Joy in Christ. I felt a lot better suddenly even though i didnt have lunch for the fear of it not digesting properly. We got on the bus and i had to sit next to some old lady and at first i wasn´t too excited but we ended up talking for 1.5 hours! i didnt understand everything but i did enough for her to think i understood everything. I taught her the whole first lesson and at first she was kinda iffy “i was born Catholic” mood and as we talked she kinda warmed up and then i showed her the promise in the Book of Mormon. After she read it she looked at me and she asked when the missionaries could teach me more cuz she lived in Alberdi and i was getting off. I got her address and they´re supposed to see her some time this week. I felt so grateful after and it was really exciting and it felt way good. Later that day (still sick) it rained a ton but we ended up teaching 4 lessons and i felt like i could speak really well that day and i taught a ton! It was probably one of the best days so far! I shared this experience about how i was having a bad day in my talk and then the change along with some other scriptures and later this member asked how my week was and i said it was good and my comp was like yeah except he had really bad <snip> and the guy started laughing and said oh is that what you were talking about in your talk?? and i was like uhh…. yeah… it was kinda embarrassing but it was funny. Nothing much else happened this week but i CAN send yall some pictures! I love you guys so much thanks for all of your prayers :) love,

Elder Singer

PS ask bro wettstein if he knew an elder Paublo Medina. He served in Buenos Aires North from 92 to 94 and he´s in my branch and Joseph B Wirthlin visited them during his mission.

Dear family,
welllllllll this week was a fun one lots of stuff happened. i feel kinda weird just sharing spiritual stuff to you guys, spiritual stuff happens all the time i just feel like im reading the ensign when i read her letters and feel weird writing that stuff idk. anyways, this week was crazy our numbers were so bad cuz we went to like 4 baptisimal interviews and zone conference but it was fun to travel around and see other Elders and go on short exchanges. Zone conference was really cool, a whole bunch of stuff happened but something that stood out to me the most was a quote from CS Lewis and it was something along the lines of you dont really believe what you believe until those beliefs are but to the test and other stuff on how our trials are for our experience and progression towards God. the whole conference was in Spanish and I understood almost all of it so that was nice. After zone conference i went on an exchange for the next day with the other zone leader Elder Cieza and hes really cool. He´s from Peru. When we were walkin i contacted a drunk guy (i didnt know before) and he kept sayin how sad his life was but i was his friend and then we said bye and he gave me this big hug and then another one. The next morning with Elder Cieza, we were knockin doors and this girl said she had to shower and i didnt understand exactly i thought it was some sorta chore or somethin and i said… uh, necesita ayuda? which means do you need help? and i didnt know until after Elder Cieza told me what she said it was super funny. Later Azuzena who was going to have her baptism last saturday told us that she drank coffee during her interview and not weeks before so we have to wait for a bit now. My comp was kinda frustrated/embarrassed cuz this has never happened to him before and so i showed him Alma 26:27 and he lit up after he read it. Also i had another experience with a guy who im pretty sure was drunk BUT he could speak english kinda and he pulled up next to us in his car while we were knocking doors and holy cow it was hilarious. First he asked me why i was in Argentina and i told him about my purpose as a missionary and then suddenly he started talkin about Obama and Guantanamo Bay and then he told me how Jesus is the master of history. Then it was to Apollo 13 and he said the phrase “Houston we have a problem” is very popular in his country, i told him i was from Houston and he got super excited and he was like hey, we need to talk, not about religion about other things. I said im here to share the Gospel. He said ok, took my hand (and shook it for like 30 seconds) and”hey… you are my friend… i love you baby” then he shouted i love you baby like 10 times and finally left it was hilarious. On Sunday we actually had a lot of less active people come and Azuzena and my comp that day was asked to give a talk AND teach the lesson… reminds me of my last sunday at home… I guess Brother (insert name i cant remember) was right. Later we were knocking doors and we found a bunch of people who were friends and we committed them to if they receive an answer they´ll be baptized and that was exciting. Today was Pday and we went and hung out with a member family and my comp is really good at guitar and i made a joke that i can sing like an angel with them and so today they kept bothering me to sing and so i sang a hymn while my comp played it was fun, it was Senor te necesito (I need thee every hour). It was with the Flores family they´re really fun. Al paracer puedo cantar lindo. I took some pictures and i got this cord so i could send yall some but my camera just freezes up so i gotta find somethin else. Thanks for everyones letters btw, Megan i really like yours keep sending em sounds like your busy but you wanna stay that way it´ll look good on your college app. I got grandmas letter and i really liked it you can tell grandpa i spent 2 more days in Tucuman! O dad the shipping thing? yeah they open every package and charge you at the value of whatever you explained thats why i said to send it in cereal or peanutbutter or somethin so yeah… bienvenidos a Argentina. Mom i have no idea how the calling the fam works but hopefully all find out sooner or later. Thanks for all of your prayers but my time is up, i love you guys so much!
Love,
Elder Singer
