Elder Singer cooks for Elder Ramos....(looks ummm appetizing)

Dear Family,

This week was pretty cool, first week with Elder Watkins and we get along good! He´s a cool guy and Grandpa is friends with his Grandpa and he gave me like his life story and the guy sounds like a pretty cool guy and I am convinced to not buy green grapes any more. Also my package came in!! thanks so much and apparently the other one is already in the office!! Do I have to wait until the Christmas to open it all? I gave Elder Valle the advent calendar and he´s pretty pumped about it. O yeah and Aunt Carol says I have to wait… but its cool it was nice to hear from her, it sounds like Brad surviving at the school of the Apostates . I liked how you talked about hunters, it reminded me of the valley named Nimrod, for he was a mighty hunter. But yeah I am glad everyone is doing good and the pictures were pretty sweet. All the other kids look a lot older and its kinda weirding me out and the basketball hoop looks pretty cool maybe when I come home I´ll go dunk on it if I feel like it.

Anyway I think Elder Watkins and I have started out the transfer pretty strong and we´ve got a lot of cool ideas and we are gonna focus more on getting references from the members and reactivating people by teaching the first lesson to the less active members and then ask them for references too. Elder Arnold of the 70 came and I didn´t get to go but some of the other missionaries got to see him and he said that we need to be knocking less doors and doing missionary work that way and a whole bunch of other stuff but apparently it was really intense and the mission is getting pretty hardcore. Also we had stake conference and I was surprised at how many people were there and President and Hermana Northcutt came and they spoke about the Book of Mormon they both gave really good talks. But unfortunately none of our investigators came.

This week we found a whole lot of new investigators and we taught a lot too. One of the new investigators was named Lorena and she seems really good and really prepared to receive the gospel. Apparently she had talked to missionaries a long time ago. We found another family and we taught them and brought a member with us and he has a really intense testimony and the lesson was good just he got super intense and talked about all the meat of the Gospel before we could talk about the milk but I think everything will turn out good. We had a really great district and zone meeting and it was a great spiritual pump up and I think we are going to have a whole lot of success. I really like our new district and the new missionaries are my comp and Elder Dillree from Wyoming. He´s a cool guy and has about 6 months in the mission. All week long we have been playing soccer early in the morning and I had a fundamental moment in my soccer career. I did this spin move and juked somebody else (this was a move that Elder Ramos taught me) and I scored a goal. It was pretty epic. Also my insane bruise is from getting smashed into the barred window of the church it is probably the biggest bruise I´ve ever had. Also, we slept with the window open last night and I got EATEN ALIVE. So that explains the little red dot. After we played soccer, Elder Ramos and I made lunch and I made some ice cream and put oreos in it and it turned out delicious. Many missionaries know me for being such a great cook (haha not) BUT I am learning. Well I gotta go, the pics are of my bruise, scab, Elder Valle and I, the lil party we had for Elder Ramos and Elder Watkins. Elder Ramos is the chubby guy, him and I are busting up laughing every single day he is so funny we are from the same group. Well, thanks so much for the letters and especially

the package! Love you guys so much and can´t wait to hear from you again!

La loma Transfer 2 with Elder Watkins

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Dear Family,

This week was pretty decent, not a whole lot to tell but I already have a new comp here in La Loma. Elder Valle got transferred to Guemes, its a lil town outside of Salta but he´s still in my zone so all see him every Thursday. That was too bad that Tasha got transferred but I knew she was gonna head outta there pretty soon. Its been hard both times I have left my 2 areas. Yeah I got the Halloween package by the way and one of the Christmas ones but I didn´t see a livesaver thing… did you send me 2 Christmas packages? I gave the advent calender to Elder Valle haha he was pretty excited about it. And yeah I told you what happened with the bank. I got the letter from Tyler, Megan Fox, Kelsi Williams, and Myley Cyrus. I wasn´t expecting so many dear johns in one letter but hey… their loss. Tyler said I never wrote him on his mission but I did, I´m gonna try to write him next Pday… and if I dont have time then… the next one haha.
This last week with Elder Valle wasn´t too eventful. We completed all the goals but we didn´t have any investigators at church. Juan got sick and we´re gonna see him this saturday it looks like because he´s going out of town. We had our interviews with President and that was cool. He´s a pretty intense guy but the interview was good. He really loves us missionaries and I can tell he´s gonna be really sad to go back to the states I think he has till July. I found out he was a professor of religion. That explains a lot. My new comp Elder Watkins seems like a really nice guy and a hard worker. He´s from Sugar Hill Utah I think its called and went to Utah State for a year. He said that his grandpa worked with Dairy and lives in Logan and I told him there is no way that our Grandpas don´t know each other, but this grandpa´s last name is Plowman. He just told me that both of his grandparents live in Logan too! small world. Just so yall know this email might be a lil short because I´ve been bouncing back emails with Dad. This one kid that is getting ready to leave on his mission gave a talk to the parents about the importance of duty to God and some of the special experiences he has had with his dad. I kinda choked up a bit and so did Elder Valle and it kinda made me miss you guys. He´s the son of Hermano Barañado and his Mom died at birth and the Hermano had to raise for the last 20 years his kids alone. He´s one of the most Christlike people I have ever met and he loves to talk about temples and to share the gospel. He is our ward mission leader and he helps us a lot. We got to say goodbye to all the families that Elder Valle wanted to say goodbye to and that was nice. This dog jumped on me and I didn´t see it coming and I spilled orange soda all over my white shirt. I´m a lil nervous to teach the area to someone else because its really big but I think it will be fun with Elder Watkins. Anyways I gotta wrap things up now. I love you guys and thank you for your letters, hope all is well with everyone and that you continue to do well in all that you do.

Dear Family,

This week was pretty cool. Thanks for everyone´s letters! I really enjoyed them and congrats
mom on the new calling thats pretty awesome. Crazy that you guys might go to Nauvoo for Youth Conference that would be way cool. It sounds like Stake Conference went really well. We´ll be having ours in just a little bit. O and I was able to locate a Banco Frances and we went and its a little more complicated than I thought whenever we do stuff like this its guaranteed to be complicated just because its just a really inefficient society. But yeah what can you do. I´m not getting Tasha´s letters by the way I´m not sure why. Btw this one might be a lil shorter than normal because my email was freaking out on me and I had to start over.

The week started off cool. We got to have a lil birthday party for Elder Ramos and we used all the party stuff for my birthday and that was great. We even played pin the tail on the donkey and wore our spiderman masks. There happened to be 8 missionaries there too because they did an exchange and stayed for the next morning for district meeting. We cooked something that would be an equivalent to a BBQ in the states.

It looks like La Loma is progressing too. We have found some good new investigators and the ones that we have are making progress. Our top investigator Juan Jose, who we found out isn´t really named that, just Juan, has formed the habit of going to church and it looks like we´ll be seeing him tonight with 2 other members. We´ve been inviting his kids and 2 of them have gone now too. My comp has been teaching me a lot too. He´s a really good teacher and he´s just got a really great ability to explain people things so that they can understand. I´ve been studying a lot trying to better my teaching abilities a lot lately and he´s been giving me lots of opportunities to teach and lead the discussion. I found this book in the pension called Tracting and it was like a pump up for me and it was really good. It talks about the importance of being out knocking doors as much as you can finding people to teach, using your time wisely and  some really good teaching techniques. O and the Elder whose father passed away, he came back to the mission and my comp and him went to see him at the terminal right before he left back to Juyjuy.

This last week something kinda crazy happened. This guy in the street who had a beer bottle in his hands basically tried to rob my comp from some of the food he had in his bag and he said no and the dude got really mad. Luckily we were able to get out of it and got back to the pension but he followed us there and threatened us. He left eventually, we think he was just way drugged out and he probably doesn´t remember it happening. But don´t worry we´re OK. (IDK if you guys wanna leave this out.)

We had the Elder Alluid from the 70 come to the mission home and the 2 zones in Salta and he just made a fireside out of the air. He went up and asked us if we had any questions and wrapped them all up into a big awesome lesson it was really impressive. He´s from Buenos Aires and he told me he found out about the church in Clear Lake, Texas close to Houston I´m pretty sure I wrestled there once. He talked about how we are like angels in the lives of other people and gave the example of the dedication of Ammon to the king Lamoni.

On Sunday Juan came and it looked like he really enjoyed the testimony meeting and had a big smile on his face after. I got to play the piano and guess what… they asked me to play for the primary program!! I have to learn like 9 songs but they look pretty easy, I already know most of them. I´ve only got a month to prepare, it ought to be interesting…

This Friday is transfers! We´re going to find out what happens and I´m pretty sure Elder Valle is leaving because we talked the assistants the other day when we said bye to his friend and they gave us some inside information. Well I gotta go now. Sorry this one´s a lil short. I love you guys and miss you and I hope all is well. Tell Brad I´ll write him in a bit, he wrote me and that was really good. I´ll be excited to speak to him in Spanish after the mission. I got his message from the other guy in my stake here.

Love,

Elder Singer

PS you guys should send me like 1 joke per week. But make sure they are not like english puns because I have to tell them in Spanish haha

Dear Family,

Wow this week was pretty awesome and lots of crazy stuff happened. I really enjoyed everyones letters they were pretty enjoyable and the pictures were even better. After the volleyball pictures, I wasn´t able to see the other ones you sent me dad, maybe you can try next week. Sorry about your wallet by the way, that really stinks but remember its one of those things you wont be able to take to the next life but sometimes pains in the butt have their eternal consequences. Thanks for writing me Josh, it was well appreciated. Megan and Anna have changed a lot its kinda weirding me out. I loved your costumes they are awesome.

Wellllll…. my week was quite eventful too. As you can see we had our baptism it was pretty good now that they´re all married and stuff. He´s a good guy, he looks like a robber but he´s a pretty cool dude. He almost didn´t make it to church on sunday either because somebody tried to rob them really early in the morning and they had the police over and everything when church started but luckily he made it and was confirmed. The week started out pretty crazy. I had exchanges with Elder Ramos from Chile, he has the same time as me in the mission. This day in particular we happened to have lunch with a guy I´ve never eaten with before and he´s a really nice guy but way crazy. So we get to his house and knock the door and this super drunk guy answers the door and his mouth is full of coca leaves and is drooling all over his shirtless beer gut and starts telling us how his favorite little bird had escaped and he was really mad about it. His brother is the member (they´re both like 50 ish) and we sit down with him to eat and his drunk brother starts yelling at him and bawling his eyes out and blaming his brother for the escape of his favorite bird and then this lady who I´m pretty sure was 100 years old starts yelling at them about how God´s presence can´t be in their house if they behave like this and the member guy gets super defensive. I could not look at Elder Ramos because he was gonna make me bust up laughing. We finish up eating and the mom asks us to say a prayer for her son and while she promises him she´ll buy a new one. We sit down and I tell the guy… you know… its one of God´s creations so you´ll get to live with your bird again some day… Elder Ramos starts the prayer and in the prayer he says somethin like help him know that his bird is happy and flying free in the air… We finally got out of there and we just about fainted from laughing so hard it was HILARIOUS. I felt a lil bad for them though but we just couldn´t help it! It made for a great story that night. We weren´t able to do a lot more that day because I was afflicted with….<snip>  but we were able to teach a couple of lessons anyway. Later that week during studies we all started talking about the second coming and we all threw out our own guess of when it was gonna be and there was a knock at the door. We answered and it was a Jehovah´s Witness and all 6 of us showed up at the door. I felt bad for him, he was like shaking n stuff, he even asked us if there was any more of us there. I´ve never really liked to bible bash but some of the missionaries started to ask him questions  and he got really frustrated but it ended on a good note. We think the next week they´re going to send in the big guns or never come back.

O yeah the craziest thing happened this week! A high council guy came to the ward yesterday and he´s like 25 years old and I went up and talked to him after and he started speaking to me in english and that almost always means they served in the states but yeah he says to me do you have a brother in LA? I said no…? why? did you serve a mission. He said, yes, in Los Angeles. I said Do you know Brad Singer? And he said yeah he was my DL and ZL! He said I look a lot like him. It was a pretty awesome experience but holy cow small world.

Today we played soccer for pday and I didnt play very good, my comp says I play like a “brute” haha but the gringos beat the latinos again. I actually had a goal too surprisingly enough. There was almost a fight too some of the missionaries get a lil to serious about it its a Pday soccer game. Well thats about all for the week. I love you guys and hope all is well! portense bien!

Love,

Elder Singer
